An extremely important part of our job of teaching safe driving for life is the driving tests. An essential component or our service provision is ensuring that all candidates completely understand all of the procedures and requirements of both driving tests.
Driving Theory Test

The driving theory test consists of 50 questions covering a broad range of subjects relevant to driving. The pass mark is 43 out of 50.
In addition to the questions, there is a hazard perception test which consists of a video with a view from a moving car as if you were driving. You simply click a mouse when you see a potential hazard. The definition of a potential hazard is anything that may make you the driver, change speed or direction.
The pass mark for this 44 out of 75. For revision purposes, reviews in driving industry journals favour a cd rom produce by a company called Focus. This contains two cd roms and is called Driving Test Success.
These cd roms are available most cheaply from the major supermarkets. If you prefer a book or do not have access to a PC, then the AA produces the best book for theory questions.
There is also a DVD available for the Hazard Perception Test (again Focus have the best reviews). Both of these are available from high street retailers.

Driving Practical Test

Before you start your driving practical test, the examiner will ask you two questions about basic mechanics of the vehicle. These will have been explained to you and practiced as part of your practical driving tuition.
The test takes approx 45 min's and covers all aspects of driving including; town and country driving, dual carriageways and the reversing exercises known as manoeuvres.
Your are allowed 15 minor faults, i.e. Mistakes that do not represent a danger to your self or other drivers. 1 mistake that is either serious or dangerous (i.e. Mistakes that do represent a danger or potential danger to your self or other drivers) will result in a fail.
The usual practice is to book a 2 hour lesson which will allow time for a warm up drive, the test and time to get back home afterwards.
These lessons are charged at the usual rate and do not incur any extra or hidden costs.
